Scrum Alliance is a 20+ year and the first Scrum/Agile certification body in the world. Scrum Alliance trainers are approved only after rigorous approval process. Scrum Alliance trainers go through about 4-5 years of mentoring before they are allowed to do Scrum Alliance certifications. There are many duplicate certificates which have piggy-backed on the Scrum Alliance name and created replicas with change of a character in CSM or CSPO (like replacing Certified with Professional or with Licensed or with Registered). DO NOT waste time and money on duplicate certificates since they are not recognized by most organizations.

As the term suggests, the scrum master is “The Master of Scrum“. He or She is the one who ensures the scrum framework is followed as defined in the Scrum Guide. He or she is the servant leader, coach, or facilitator for the scrum Teams. Scrum Framework has defined set of accountabilities and events that should be followed and the scrum master works with Scrum Team and the orgnization to guide and coach the team through the scrum framework.

• Help to resolve team disagreements and conflicts.
• Help to track team progress through Burndown / Burnup charts.
• Participate in the Product Backlog Refinement to gather feedback on products and improvements.
• Help to remove barrier between team members and internal stakeholders

With CSM Certification you’ll learn the Scrum framework and gain an understanding of team accountabilities, events, and artifacts as well as how to guide your team to apply Scrum.

CSM Certification is Considered the Gold Standard of Certification. Scrum Alliance Inc. confers the CSM Certification. It is an entry-level certification which helps you to understand the Scrum framework and gain an understanding of Scrum team accountabilities, events in Scrum, and artifacts needed as well as equips you with knowledge on how to guide your team to apply Scrum and Iterative – Incremental way of working.

Scrum Alliance Certificates are given by Certified Scrum Trainers (CSTs). CSTs are highly qualified and some of the best trainers in the world. There are only 220 odd CSTs in the world and only 12 CSTs in India.

The reason there are so less CSTs is because, CST is highly qualified individual and you need to be best-of-the-best in the world to become a CST. CSTs have good industry experience and are certified to be trainers after a lot of scrutiny. The Training given by a CST is authentic. Organizations recognize the importance of EXPERTISE.

Most organizations know that getting trained from a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) ensures that the one who is trained has authentic knowledge about the Scrum and Agile.

Getting trainined from Scrum Alliance certified CST ensures that Certified Scrum Master or Certified Scrum Product Owner has approriate level of knowledge and skills to work on a Scrum Project.

NO. CSM is about Scrum Framework which is a process framework for execution purposes for solving complex problems. CSPO is about product development to take the product from high level to low level so that Scrum can solve the business problem.

Basically, CSM workshop starts with an assumption that there is a product backlog (requirements list) already there good enough to execute it… CSPO workshop ends at a time when the Product Backlog gets ready to execute.

While there is no prerequisite, our professional advice (based on views of experienced trainers and professionals such as Amit, Gaurav and Snehamayee) is that you should do CSM first. CSM makes it easy to understand CSPO since there is hardly any coverage of Scrum in CSPO. It is an assumption in CSPO that you already know Scrum.

There are no prerequisites for Certified Scrum Master (CSM®) or Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO®) certification. You can appear for CSM or CSPO certification any time. There is no prerequisite of any other certification or experience years to attend CSM Training or Certification / CSPO Training or Certification

There is a small formality test for CSM with two attempts included.  The CSM test is one hour, 50 questions and 37 marks to pass.

For CSPO, there is no test. For CSPO, the assessment is based on your participation in the case studies and assignments. Participation is mandatory and evaluation is done based on case study and assignments

You cannot take CSM certification online exam without attending the Scrum Master Class. It is mandatory to attend 2-day Scrum Master training from a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer(CST) to be eligible to appear for the CSM certification online exam.

There is no prerequisite for the CSM Training india or CSPO Training india certification. Any candidate who undergoes the 2 day training and clears the exam can earn a CSM Certification / CSPO Certification.

But in the practical world, it’s recommended that a Scrum Masters in India to have a bachelor’s degree, some experience and basic knowledge before attending the training.

Same way for a Product Owner attending a CSPO training in India, technical knowledge and work experience managing projects will be an added advantage.

After being certified as Scrum master one can look for job roles like a scrum team member, Scrum Coach, Scrum Master and Agile Coach.

There is a two-year validity of both certificates. Scrum Alliance will never take away your certificate even if it is not extended after two years. You can extend the certificate even if there is a 10 year gap.

You can renew the Certified Scrum Master certification two ways:

• You can do any other Scrum Alliance certification and your CSM certification will renew automatically for another 2 years from the date you complete another certification of Scrum Alliance
• You can report 30 SEU or Continuous Education Credits (Scrum Education Units) and pay a renewal fees of USD 100.  Some of the ways to gain the continuing education credits:

• Read books, blogs and articles about any agile practice, principle, or framework. Contribute to a local agile or Scrum User Group.

NO. There is no need to take exam or take the course. There are two ways you can extend the certificate.

• If you do any other Scrum Alliance certificate, then the current certificate will be extended automatically by another two years from the completion of the current certificate.
• Seconly, you can pay a renewal fees of $100 for any one of CSM and CSPO in your portfolio and extend the other in the same price.

Included in the fees are Certification exam cost, free 2^nd attempt, CSM/CSPO Logo and CSM/CSPO badge which you can use in resume or on social media platforms such as Linkedin or Facebook. Scrum Alliance also provides 2 year membership of Scrum Alliance. Through this membership you can get additional member-only resources, join local user groups, online social networks and discounts on gatherings.  In addition, CSMs can use a specially designed logo to highlight their credentials.
